About the Hackathon

Industry 4.0 Cybersecurity Hackathon is a cybersecurity competition with a goal of raising awareness on the information security of Industrial Control Systems 4.0. It is aimed at a broad scope of practitioners in the field of cybersecurity. The competition is not solely focused on offense or defense but encourages an all-encompassing approach that allows teams to compete with whatever cybersecurity strengths they bring to the competition.For more information click here

Hackathon Details

Online Training Round 2020

The online training is a self-paced training program aimed at giving participants knowledge in Industrial Control system security to prepare them for the hackathon. Participants will undertake a number of learning modules such as:

  • Industrial Control Protocols
  • Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Internet of Things
  • Cybersecurity Concepts

Participants will then sit for the Online Hackathon on March 9-10th and those who earn scores of 70% and above will be invited to participate in the Onsite Hackathon on June 8-9th happening in Strathmore University located in Nairobi, Kenya.

On-Site Hackathon Competition

The on-site Hackathon will take place on 8th and 9th June, 2020 at Strathmore University. The focus of the onsite Hackathon will be to bring innovative ideas using big data and Machine Learning applied towards supporting the cybersecurity, threat intelligence and Intrusion detection in Industrial Control Systems (ICS).

The onsite challenge will involve forming participants who successfully complete the online training into groups of 4 players. The completion will begin with an orientation to an ICS testbed that will provide the environment for them to compete in. Teams will gain points by either completing tasks and submitting tokens or completing challenges and submitting a solution. The team with the highest score will be recognized and awarded with the World Champion Title.
